Everyone always says happiness is a choice but if that’s the case, then why are there so many sad people?

We can’t help how we feel. If something happens that makes us sad, then we’re sad. If we’re happy, we’re happy. We don’t exactly get to choose how things impact us on an emotional scale because our emotions are difficult to control. But, we can choose our actions and how we handle situations, whether it is positive or negative.

Let’s say your car breaks down before work. That probably makes you feel really angry and frustrated, right? So do you throw a tantrum and let it ruin your day, or do you handle it logically and make the best out of the situation that you can?

Maybe you can’t help how you feel, but you can decide how you want to deal with things.

And I think that’s what they’re getting at when they say “choose to be happy”

Because if I could tell myself that and then magically be happy, it’d be great. But it’s not about that.

It’s more about the words you tell yourself. It’s about your thoughts. It’s about waking up in the morning and thinking you’ll have a good day, and believing that things will work out and that you will be okay. And if you change your mindset to think things like this—just little positive things, I think you will find yourself happier. At least, I hope so, because that’s what happened with me.
